WHO AM I

I am an Austin based musician, inspired by my city. Music has always been the way that I communicate with the world. I started on the piano learning the classics and technique, until I found a love for Jazz. That opened me up to a style where breaking the rules and flipping expectations was all fair game. I’ve carried that with me, through marching band and jazz ensembles. And in my later teens I found that arranging and writing music allowed me to tell people exactly how I felt, and capture moments of my life. I paid attention to the movies I watched who were doing the same things but to a whole different level. One of my favorite films, Interstellar, took these simple yet other-worldy electronics and made me feel adventure, hope, grief, all in one two hour period. And then I knew that that’s what I wanted to be able to do with my pieces, my music. So I pursued composition at the University of North Texas. This program was incredible to push the boundries of what I thought of as music, how I used the sounds not only of instruments but of our everyday. I even got to work with a ton of different artists from other colleges to make an immersive experience. Like the coreographer who used classical music with abstract movement. Or the short film club who had me score their psycological mystery. Which allowed me to explore tension and anxiety. This has pushed me to keep pursuing film music.
